Three Months

Dear Madeline,

You are 3 months old! I can hardly believe it. We have made it through one quarter of a year with you.

You are such an amazing little baby and I just feel so blessed each day I get to spend with you.

At 3 months you are almost rolling over, but you still are not a fan of tummy time. You will usually cry if we try to lay you down on your tummy, but you get super excited when we lay you on your back on one of your playmats (yes, you have more than one. We just love to spoil our princess).

You are quite the wiggle worm these days and we often lay you in one position only to find you have completely moved yourself around the other way.

You are still nursing and we (thankfully) are no longer having to use the nipple shield every time. One morning you woke up and it was like something just clicked in your mind. You suddenly knew how to latch on perfectly and we have never looked back.

Of course, you are still taking a bottle (of breast milk or formula not Coke) while I am work and you have started to really hold on to the bottle while you are eating. When you are done you will push it away. It is pretty cute. Another funny little thing you do is when you are nursing you always stroke my arm or my chest, well you have started doing the same thing to the bottle. It’s as if you are saying, “nice bottle.”

You are just such a sweet little baby.

You are wearing 0-3 months clothing (though you still can wear an occasional newborn size) and when you wear disposable diapers you are in a size one. We use cloth diapers nearly 100% of the time now and you look so cute with your big fluffy butt.

You still would prefer to be held while you sleep and so most nights you end up cuddling with me. I barely sleep those nights, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

This last month you got you first set of shots, which also means you got your first fever. I think you probably handled it better than I did. It was so hard to watch the nurse stick you and honestly I almost didn’t let them. We have chosen to spread them out more than what the doctors tell us we are supposed to, but we think we are making the best choice for you.

We also celebrated your first Father’s Day and your first 4th of July!

For Father’s Day you helped me make daddy a special gift with your footprints and handprints.

Your daddy and I swear that everyday you get a little bit cuter. We love to make up silly songs that make you smile and laugh. Your smile is one of my very favorite things of all time.

You are growing! You are now 23 inches long and weigh 10 pounds, 14 ounces! You legs are getting chubby and of course your cheeks are extra squishable. We are so relieved to see you gaining weight since that was such a struggle in those first few weeks.

We have made lots of trips to the Farmer’s Market, Target, and everywhere. You always do so good. Everyone loves to stop and ask how old you are and tell me that you are beautiful. We already know that, but it is still fun to hear from others.

You love to watch the Royals games with Daddy.  You both take it very seriously.

We are really hoping to take you to your first baseball game later this year.

You have really started “talking” a lot lately.  You will coo and try and mimic the sounds that we make.  Your daddy and I swear it often sounds like you are saying “hi” and “I love you.”

You love to sit up now and while you still need some assistance, you would prefer to always be sitting up where you can see everything that is going on around you.  You have also started to get really excited about toys and will grab, hit, and kick them when we play with you.  Your favorite book is “Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?” by Eric Carle.  I think you like the rhythm of the story when I read it to you.  You are much more fond of baths these days than you used to be – thank goodness.  You love to be rocked in the rocking chair and you still love your swing…most of the time.  You always give me the biggest smile when I come home from work.  I know you miss me during the day and I miss you terribly too, but I know how much you love our time together when I’m home.  You always want to cuddle and play and I just love being able to have that time with you.

You make everyday a little bit brighter and just when I think I couldn’t love you more…I do.

Love Always,

Your momma
