Site Neglected

Sorry about the lack of updates.  It was a long weekend, and I seemed to lack the time to turn the computer on.  My sister, brother-in-law, and niece got back from vacation late Sunday night and my niece called early Monday morning asking begging me to come pick her up so that she could spend the night.  Of course, I did.  She drives me crazy, but I love her.  So, she was here Monday and then of course all day on Tuesday.  My sister and brother-in-law came over we had a late lunch.  We did the whole home-made ice cream thing and then did a few fireworks.  We then went and watch them at a local park.  It was a great display.

I love the Fourth of July.  In all honesty I’m scared to death of shooting the fireworks off myself, but I love watching them.  I took a lot of photos.  I got some really good shots – which is always nice.  Fireworks are hard to shot and I just have my little Sony Cybershot camera, but I think I got some really great photos.  I’ll put them up on Flickr and Shutterfly in the next day or so.

I suppose my only other excuse for the lack of updates recently is that I have been writing a lot.  Which is good.  I have this one story that I am working on that I’m not quite sure what to do with.  I just started writing it one day without any idea of where I wanted it to go, and now it seems like it is going to go in a really strange direction – potentially good – just strange and a little difficult to write.  I always seem to do this.  I let the characters "write themselves."  Sometimes I have an idea of where I want a story to go, and then the characters seem to take on a life of their own, and the story ends up flowing in a different direction.  I like to write what feels natural for the character, and often that is not what I had planned for them once I get started.  That’s why with this story I didn’t make any plans.  We’ll see how it turns out.  It’s all a learning process for me.  Half the time I don’t know what I’m doing, and I’m always surprised when I write a story that I love and don’t feel like crumpling up into a ball.  I really need to take another writing workshop.  They really do help.

Anyway, I’ll try and update a little bit more regularly, but I’m making no promises.  It’s just hard to write anything after I’ve been writing all day.

  1. aww thats sweet she wanted to stay over with you :D its always nice to spend time with family over festivals and holidays.I love writing, i tend to have all the fun in the plannng though, rather than the writing. It’s good that your muse has visited you, i’d love to read some of your stuff if you ever post it up here. :)

  2. Glad to hear that you had a great time with your niece! I’ve been reading a lot of journal entries about 4th July. An American holiday that us Aussies obviously don’t celebrate. Happy to hear you enjoyed the fireworks. I was never really good at creative writing, so I guess I should leave that kind of thing to the experts like yourself! Have a good week! Cheers. :)

  3. that’s really sweet of your neice. i missed the fireworks this year, sadly, but eh pictures are really nice. writing is always fun, and when i start a story, it always turns out different one way or another. good luck with the story!
